In 2016, Mayor Landrieu and the New Orleans Recreation Development Committee, “NORDC,” announced the opening of five newly remodeled recreation centers with another center opening in fall 2017. The new centers are the St. Bernard Center, Sanchez Center, Lyons Center, Joe W. Brown Recreation Center, Cut-Off Recreation Center and opening in 2017, the Milne Center. The recreation centers will feature computers, wi-fi, air hockey and new programs including robotics, a Junior Achievement Program and Chevron Future Leaders program. Since 2010, the City of New Orleans has focused investment in the city’s youth and recreation centers as they provide safe, structured and properly supervised activities of our youth. As a benefit to the community, recreation centers have a direct positive economic impact on their communities.
